An approachable, beautiful, and useful book for the casual spring lover or the dedicated sakura viewer.

Sakura of New York is a comprehensive guide to and showcase of New York City’s cherry blossoms. New York is often left out when talking about sakura destinations in the United States, but Sakura of New York proves just how much spring beauty New York has to offer. The book details the cultural origins of cherries and how they came to arrive in the global West, while also highlighting several of the best of New York’s flowering cherries through original documentary photography.

This spread, which opens the Brooklyn Botanical Garden's section, contains information about the Brooklyn Botanical Garden, as well as a photo of weeping cherry trees in their Japanese Hill-and-Pond Garden.

Sakura of New York is a two-part book, starting with some history about cherry blossoms in Japan, as well as how they came to arrive in the United States.

The book’s second part contains photography features of some of the best locations in New York to view sakura. Locations include Sakura Park, Riverside Park, Flushing Meadows Corona Park, Central Park, the New York Botanical Garden, and the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.

All photographs in Sakura of New York were taken by me unless otherwise indicated.
